The bathroom is a very important room in every house, although sometimes underappreciated. Properly designed it will not only serve you, but it will also become a source of relaxation.
Plan your layout first
Comfortable use of sanitary facilities will ensure that you keep adequate distances between them and other equipment in the bathroom. At least 80 x 85 cm should be provided for the toilet, and 70 x 100 cm for the bidet. You should have at least 70 x 100 cm of free space in front of the bathtub and 60 x 90 cm in front of the washbasin. These are the optimal dimensions.
In small bathrooms, the task is more difficult. Therefore, before you buy and install sanitary equipment, you should draw their arrangement on the floor. This will allow you to better assess what dimensions of the appliances to buy and what distances to keep between them.
Bath or shower?
The eternal dilemma of a bath or shower often is decided by the size of your bathroom. With a small space, the shower is the best solution. By insisting on the bathtub, you will only lose valuable space, and you will not be able to fit the large bathtub you probably dream of.
When space is not a limitation, you have a lot more options. You could also consider combining the bath with shower. This is an optimal solution that will satisfy the needs of all household members.
Heating in the bathroom
In the bathroom, proper heating is an extremely important issue, especially if there are young children at home. Classic radiators may not be suitable in a bathroom. Although in a micro size toilet they may be suitable, when you have very little space, like in our bedroom en-suite.
The ladder radiators will be particularly practical in bathrooms, as they can also serve as a towel rack at the same time, and they can actually add style to your bathroom.
Walls and floors in the bathroom
A bathroom is a place where special attention should be paid to the protection of walls and floors. Ceramic tiles are the most common and practical solution – they are damp proof and they are easy to clean. However, you can choose other options, for example, concrete or its imitation, or if they seem to be too cold, warm wood or colorful wallpaper.
However, you should remember that not all types of wallpapers and wood are suitable for the bathroom. You must choose those that do not absorb water. The best will be vinyl wallpaper, which works well in rooms with high humidity. In the case of teak wood, preferably protect with oil. However, in places most exposed to water, like around a bathtub, ceramic tiles will still be the best.
Off course you don’t have to tile the whole bathroom, but areas around your bathtub and shower should be tiled. The walls around other areas in the bathroom can be just painted with a special bathroom pain.
The fact that mirrors reflect light and optically enlarge the bathroom we can find in almost every guide. However, it is a truth difficult to ignore. With such small rooms as usual bathrooms, sometimes with no windows, the mirror changes the perception of the bathroom. The bigger the better.
The mirror is traditionally placed above the sink. It is worth, if possible, stretch them on the entire wall. You can also place mirrors in unusual places, for example above a toilet. In bathrooms, mirrors without frames are better. You can actually put your mirror instead of the tiles above your vanity unit. Mirrors fit this way will look like a part of the wall. In some of our products lines, you can buy a matching mirror to a vanity unit. Vanity units from Antic White and Natural have matching mirrors.
The right bathroom lighting
It’s best to have at least 2 sources of light: ceiling lamp, and wall lamps that can be fitted on or above your mirror. For bigger bathrooms, a ceiling lamp that provides a bright, evenly diffused light can be accompanied by spotlights, this will add some style to your bathroom. Make sure that the main ceiling lamp and spotlights have separate switches.
In the bathroom, we have to store cosmetics, hygiene utensils and sometimes towels. The simplest solution is to store everything in a vanity unit. You can choose from wall suspended types of floor standing units. Spacious drawers work perfectly and efficiently fulfill their function.
When you need more storage, you can consider a tall storage unit, they are very spacious and offer ample storage space .
In very small rooms you can mount cabinets or shelves under the ceiling – however, you should remember about difficult access. That type of cabinet will only work for less frequently used items.
Soap dish or soap dispenser, brush cup are the basic accessories needed in every bathroom. We keep them on the sink or near the bathtub. However, there are a few things that are worth adding to our bathroom. It is worth to lay out a mat, preferably non-slip, next to a bathtub or shower.
